Painting throughout his career under the pseudonym, Eugene de Sala, this artist was born in Randers, Denmark August 29, 1899. In this painting entitled Jeune Garconne he depicts an androgynous girl at rest. The Mode Garconne or Boyish Look was at the height of Paris fashion in the mid-1920s when we can date this work.
De Sala established a studio in Copenhagen from which he exhibited his paintings throughout Scandinavia. These works consisted of numerous still-lifes and a few rarer figural works. His paintings were very popular in Denmark and as a result de Sala produced lithographs to satisfy public demand. Of particular note are his abstract compositions from the 1930s which command high prices when they appear on the international art market.
