Author Bio
Jean Laudy was born in Venloo in Holland in 1877 but moved to Belgium in 1893 at the age of sixteen. Showing artistic talent, he was enrolled at the Antwerp Academy in 1894 followed by a course at the Academy of Brussels where, under the guidance of Isidor Verheyden, he honed his skills. Upon graduating, he settled in Brussels and commenced painting the portraits, still-lifes and figurative interior works for which he is now best known. A frequent exhibitor at the ateliers, L’Effort and La Patte de Dindon, his paintings were tremendously well received.
In 1921 he became a naturalized Belgian and in 1954 a member of the prestigious, Royal Academy of Belgium.
Paintings by Jean Laudy can be seen in the museums of Bergen, Brussels, Elsene, St. Joost den Node and St. Niklaus in Belgium.
