An artist devoted to capturing the pure white light of the French Riviera, Marie-Therese Guerin was working during the period 1920-1940. Her work is found frequently around Marseilles so we can assume that she was a native of the region. Painting in a manner showing reverence to the post-Impressionists, she manages to capture the distinct characteristics of the area. Utilizing a limited palette she paints in a dry, thin manner allowing canvas to show through to accentuate the composition. This typical example showing a view, probably near Marseilles, can be counted amongst her earliest works to around 1920-1925.
